Abstract: |
This study examines anglers' perception and willingness to support various restoration alternatives in the Florida Everglades. An online survey instrument was developed consisting of the discrete choice experiment wherein respondents were asked to choose from three restoration scenarios of freshwater flow. Respondents could select their preferred scenario, valuing percent changes in various fishery attributes and the overall ecological condition from the current level. Each scenario was characterized with a comprehensive set of indicators representing both direct and indirect outcomes of restoration that would contribute to respondents' recreational satisfaction. One of the indicators was additional boat launching fee (or price of a given restoration). On all choice cards, Scenario I represented the status-quo at low or no additional cost, and Scenarios II and III represented maintaining or improvement of current levels at an increased cost. The survey instrument also consisted of questions that helped assess perception, attitude, and willingness to take actions against various risks associated with future Everglades restoration outcome particularly in the face of sea-level rise. The survey was implemented using the online Qualtrics platform during 2015-16, which resulted in 600 completed surveys. |
